Savannah Itineraries & Trip Threads by Be Our Gaston
Curated travel plans for every kind of visit — romantic, historic, foodie, creative, and more.
I’m Kelly McAtee — founder of Be Our Gaston and the creator of TheTripThread. I’ve lived in downtown Savannah for four years, and I built these Trip Threads (itineraries) to help people experience the city the way I do: emotionally, slowly, and with a sense of texture. Whether you’re into haunted history, garden picnics, beach escapes, bookstores, or cocktail bars with a side of live music, there’s a thread here for you. Each one is built from personal experience and powered by a vibe-matching system I designed to help travelers feel their way through a place — not just check off the usual stops.

Getting Around Savannah
Savannah is easy to navigate — especially from our centrally located rentals. Here's how to explore the city with ease.
On Foot
Savannah is one of the most walkable cities in the South. From our rentals, everything from brunch to boutiques is a 3- to 10-minute stroll.
Trolley
The hop on/off trolley has multiple stops (one right behind our rentals) and the Historic District — perfect for hopping to the riverfront or City Market.
Pedicabs
Part transportation, part entertainment — pedicabs are a laid-back way to cruise the squares. Sometimes, we take one downtown for fun! Just flag one down or text for pickup.
Bike or E-Bike
Rent a cruiser or e-bike for the day and see more of Savannah at your own pace. Great for exploring Bonaventure, Thunderbolt, or the waterfront.
Bringing a car? We’ve got you covered?
From free parking just a block away, to metered spots and garages, to what hours to avoid — our guide breaks down where to park, what to avoid, and how to stress less.
Savannah Travel FAQs by TheTripThread
-
As a local, I’m usually in walking shoes and sunglasses — it’s a city best explored on foot. In the summer, I live in sundresses: they’re cool, comfortable, and match the Southern vibe perfectly. A light jacket is smart if you’re headed to rooftop bars or catching a coastal breeze at night.
-
Most of our guests stay three nights — and for good reason. Two days is just scratching the surface. With three, you’ll have time to explore the squares, try a few standout restaurants, and maybe even make it to Tybee. Before we moved here, we visited often, and two days never felt like quite enough.
-
Absolutely. Tybee is about a 20–25 minute drive from Savannah, depending on traffic. We sometimes take our own car, but honestly? We often Uber out there to avoid the hassle of beach parking. It’s a perfect day trip — laid-back, breezy, and home to a few great casual restaurants. We love The Deck Beach Bar and Kitchen for ocean views and cocktails.
-
Most of our guests visit in the spring or fall — and it’s easy to see why. Spring brings blooming azaleas and perfect walking weather, while fall is cooler, golden, and less crowded. Personally? I love December. Historic Savannah looks magical with holiday decorations, and the weather is usually mild enough for strolling and rooftop dinners.
-
Yes — we’d say with confidence that there’s at least one ghost (maybe more) in both our main house and the carriage house. We’ve had our own strange moments over the years, and several guests have shared their own unexplained experiences — especially in the carriage house. Nothing scary, just enough to remind you Savannah has a foot in another world.
-
The South Historic District — where our rentals are located — is very walkable and feels safe, even after dark. We’re out and about in the evenings all the time. Like any city, some areas are quieter than others, and we recommend sticking to well-lit streets. We actually created a guide comparing the North and South Historic Districts if you'd like help deciding where to stay.
-
We’re just one block from Forsyth Park, on one of the most iconic streets in the Historic District — Gaston Street. It’s a central location that lets you walk to everything, but it also gives you the peace and beauty of one of Savannah’s most picturesque neighborhoods. You really get the best of both worlds.
-
During the day, I’m usually in comfortable walking clothes — and nearly every restaurant is fine with that. In the evening, I like to dress up just a bit. A sundress or something simple makes dinner out feel a little more special, especially at some of our nicer spots. Think polished but relaxed — Savannah is stylish, but never too formal.
-
That’s exactly what this guide is for. Whether you’re coming for a quick weekend or a longer getaway, we’ve gathered our personal picks for where to eat, what to do, how to get around, and even which kind of trip might suit you best. It’s all based on what we love — and what our guests ask us about most.
