Savannah Romantic Getaway

Savannah reminds me of Paris — but in the South. There’s something unmistakably romantic about this city. The wrought iron balconies, cobblestone lanes, weathered brick, and mystical Spanish moss all whisper of slow mornings, evening strolls, and timeless charm.

Whether you’re planning a surprise proposal, a weekend escape, or your first trip as newlyweds, this one-day itinerary is made for two.

A real moment from our own romantic night in Savannah — one of many reasons we fell in love with this city.

Where Every Corner Feels Like a Love Story

We fell in love with Savannah for a reason. The brick-lined streets, flickering gas lanterns, and moss-covered oaks make it one of the most romantic cities in the South. Whether you’re sharing wine in a garden courtyard (as we often do) or walking hand-in-hand through a quiet square, Savannah invites you to slow down — and fall in love all over again.

With ivy-covered homes, garden courtyards, and hidden corners full of charm, Savannah is a city that makes you want to linger. This photo was taken in our front yard during April/’25.

A Romantic Day in Savannah, from Morning to Moonlight

Whether you’re celebrating something special or simply carving out time for each other, Savannah sets the scene for romance. This one-day itinerary blends historic charm, walkable beauty, and quiet moments you’ll remember long after the trip is over.

Morning

A romantic breakfast with croissants, strawberries, and flowers — the perfect slow morning in Savannah.

Coffee, Conversation, and a Stroll Through the Park

Start your day slow and sweet — with coffee, conversation, and a quiet walk through one of the South’s most romantic parks.

  • Eat at The Collins Quarter at Forsyth: Start your day with coffee and conversation at The Collins Quarter at Forsyth, one of Savannah’s most iconic brunch spots — and one of our personal favorites. Sit outside if the weather’s nice; there’s no better view than the fountain, the oaks, and the slow rhythm of the park waking up. And yes, the mimosas are excellent.

  • Walk Through Forsyth: After breakfast, take a meandering walk through Forsyth Park, especially if it’s a Saturday — the farmers’ and makers’ market is open from 9 to 1 and adds a lovely energy. One full loop around the park is exactly a mile, and if you're in the mood for a second coffee before moving on, grab one to go at the Collins Quarter side window near the playground.

  • Saunter Down Gaston and Jones: Arguably two of the most beautiful streets in the Historic District, Gaston and Jones are pure romantic charm. From the northern edge of Forsyth, head east on Gaston (where it intersects Bull), then turn left on Lincoln Street. When you reach Jones Street, turn left and wander at your own pace — the architecture, brickwork, and balconies are all worth lingering over.

As you stroll down Gaston, you’ll actually pass our home — a classic 1868 townhouse that we’re lucky to call home (and to share with guests like you). It’s part of what makes this walk so meaningful to us — it’s not just scenic, it’s personal.

Afternoon and Early Evening

A classic riverboat at sunset on the Savannah River — an iconic view to end a romantic day in the city.

View from Eastern Wharf — quiet, romantic, and perfect at sunset.

Exploring, Unwinding, and Falling in Love

After a slow and scenic morning, spend the rest of your day exploring tucked-away shops, quiet squares, and riverfront views — with plenty of time for sweet treats, sunset drinks, and a romantic dinner to end it all.

  • Shop Local Favorites on Whitaker Street:
After Jones, head to Whitaker Street and pop into One Fish Two Fish and Asher + Rye. These beautifully curated shops are full of design inspiration and sweet souvenirs.

  • Pause in Pulaski Square:
A quieter square with dramatic oaks and historic charm — it’s a favorite wedding spot in spring and perfect for a short breather or quiet moment together.

  • Pick Up Provisions for a Picnic:
Continue to Liberty Street and stop in at Provisions to grab cheese, crackers, fruit, or a bottle of wine for later.

  • Wander Toward Madison Square:
Walk east toward Bull Street and pause in Madison Square. This romantic spot is full of Revolutionary War history and shade-dappled benches — ideal for enjoying your provisions picnic.

  • Visit E. Shaver Booksellers:
A beloved Savannah bookstore tucked just off Madison Square. Pop in to browse the shelves or meet one of the resident cats.

  • Indulge at Adam Turoni:
Head north on Bull Street to Chocolat by Adam Turoni. The truffles are as gorgeous as the setting — rich velvet, antique displays, and just enough mystery.

  • Take a Romantic Walk by the River:
Walk along the river, making your way toward Eastern Wharf for a more peaceful riverside experience. It’s a quiet, scenic contrast to the bustle of River Street.

  • Pre-Dinner Drinks at Sunset:
    Choose from:

    • Bar Julian, the rooftop bar at the Thompson Hotel for skyline views and a chic vibe, or

    • Adirondack chairs and cocktails on the lawn at Eastern Wharf (connected to Squirrel’s Pizza) — casual, cozy, and local.

  • Head Home to Get Ready:
Enjoy a little time to relax and freshen up before dinner. This is your evening — take it slow.

  • Dinner at Noble Fare:
Pedicab over to Noble Fare, a hidden gem with candlelight, inventive cuisine, and an intimate atmosphere. (You can even schedule your return pedicab ride in advance.)

  • End with Something Sweet:
Stop by Doki Doki for playful, Japanese-style ice cream. It’s whimsical, unexpected, and a fun way to end your night.

Frequently Asked (Romantic) Questions

Planning the perfect day for two? Here are answers to the most common questions we get from couples — from when to visit, where to stay, and what to wear, to little tips that make a sweet day in Savannah even more memorable.

  • Yes! Pack a picnic blanket for the squares, bring a book from E. Shaver’s to read together, buy your special someone flowers from Madame Chrysanthemum, or surprise your partner with truffles from Adam Turoni. And don’t forget to take a photo in Forsyth Park — it’s a moment you’ll want to remember.

  • Spring and fall are especially beautiful — the weather is mild, flowers are in bloom, and the city’s squares feel extra magical. That said, Savannah has year-round charm, and winter getaways can be wonderfully quiet and cozy. In fact, I personally think the month of December with the holiday decorations and local shopping is one of the most romantic times to visit.

  • Yes! This entire day was designed as a relaxed, walkable experience through the Historic District. Wear comfortable shoes — brick sidewalks and cobblestones are part of the charm. If you’d like a break, pedicabs and rideshares are easy to find.

  • Yes — we recommend booking in advance. Noble Fare is small and intimate, with limited seating, and fills up quickly. The atmosphere is elevated but not overly formal. Think date-night chic: dresses, nice jeans, button-downs, etc. No need for a jacket or heels unless you want to dress up.

  • Both of our vacation rentals — A Walk in the Park and The Garden of Good — are located right in the Historic District and within walking distance of nearly every stop on this list. Even better? We provide picnic baskets and supplies for you to use, so you can enjoy your Provisions spread in one of Savannah’s beautiful squares.
