The South Historic District, Home to Our Rentals — Plus Others We’d Recommend to Friends

This is where we host guests ourselves, so we know the area block by block. These are the only listings — including our own two — that met our standards for style, quiet, and location.

If you’re looking to feel tucked in to Savannah — not just visiting it — the South Historic District is where you want to be. It’s one of the quietest corners of the city’s historic core, filled with leafy blocks, neighborly charm, and some of the most beautiful stretches of Forsyth Park. You can walk to everything here — coffee shops, bookstores, wine bars, and River Street — but the energy is calmer, more residential, and deeply rooted.

Two of the listings below are ones we own and host ourselves. These are the spaces we’ve poured years of love and guest experience into — and they’re designed the way we want to stay: stylish, thoughtful, and easy to live in. But since both of them are made for only two people, we’ve also included other handpicked rentals nearby that offer the same charm, comfort, and quiet location — with room for larger groups too.

No noise traps. No SEO padding. Just real spaces that feel like Savannah.

🌟 How These Listings Are Chosen

I’ve hosted guests in Savannah for over three years through my own two high-rated rentals — so I know firsthand what makes a stay feel right. Every listing here was picked by hand (no automation) based on real soul, good design, and a genuinely great location for this area.

If this were about commissions, there’d be hundreds of listings. But it’s not. It’s about curation, not clutter, to make your planning easier.

Some links are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission (at no cost to you). That helps keep Be Our Gaston personal, ad-free, and fully editorial — always.

These rentals are the ones we trust — not just for their location (which is excellent), but for their soul, design, and attention to detail. Whether you’re looking for a romantic weekend or space for a family gathering, these are the places we’d actually send a friend.

  • I think my favorite comment from a guest was, “Man, your description and photos don’t do this place justice.” A Walk in the Park is the direct result of us having stayed in Airbnb’s for nine months straight during the pandemic. I learned what works and what doesn’t, and this apartment (as well as The Garden of Good) are direct reflections of that. They’re beautiful, full of creative charm, designed with high quality linens and towels, unique dishware, etc. They feel special unlike so many generic rentals, and that’s what I was going for! I have hundreds of notes from guests, which you can see HERE, but I can’t upload them all or the page would take forever to load!!)

🛎 Hotels in the South Historic District

For travelers who want hotel polish, but in Savannah’s quietest historic neighborhood.

The South Historic District has fewer hotels than its northern neighbor — but the ones here are worth a second look. Nestled near Forsyth Park, these stays offer the comfort of concierge service and crisp linens, without sacrificing the neighborhood’s leafy, residential feel. You’ll still be walking distance to wine bars, local cafés, and morning strolls beneath the moss — just with a bit more service at the ready.
